About Us

We are a small independent family business based in the West County. The proprietors are Chris and Cheryl Francis.

Our shop is called Burnham-on-Sea Goldsmiths, and is a small high street outlet, converted from the old original cottages that lined the street from Victorian times. Burnham-on-Sea is a friendly and popular seaside town with visitors from all over the country.

The shop caters for the usual wide range of products from watches and giftware through to wedding and engagement rings. However it has been our success and expertise in second hand jewellery that has led to our deciding to extend our range to a wider customer base through this internet site.

We have chosen items for this site based on their high quality, affordability and value for money.

We have our own workshop which enables us to restore any item if required, and all of the second hand jewellery is individually and carefully re-polished by hand on the traditional jewellers polishing mop, with old fashioned jewellers rouge giving a beautiful finish to the piece.

Chris started in the jewellery trade from school at 16, thirty-four years later he still enjoys the trade that has been his whole life.

The first two years were spent with and independent jewellers in Kettering, working with an octogenarian Jewish proprietor, and a small and close-knit team of very traditional end established jewellers. The next five years were with national group James Walker, leaving just before they were taken over. The following year he managed the launch of a new shop in Kettering for a small regional group of shops, and then in 1983 started his own business in Bridgwater, Somerset. In 1990 Chris and Cheryl relocated to the seaside at Burnham-on-Sea.

Cheryl has developed the retail shop business, with a small team of staff that are friendly, experienced and helpful. The team includes Barry, Jayne and Cheryl (yes another Cheryl, just to confuse you).  Whilst still taking an active roll in the shop Chris also works within the insurance industry specialising in advising on repairs and restorations to damaged jewellery.
